Statement from Gian-Carl Casa, President & CEO of CT Community Nonprofit Alliance, on Governor Lamont’s budget proposal:

“Given the state’s budget difficulties, the Alliance thanks Governor Lamont for mostly protecting community services and programs that serve people with developmental disabilities, treat substance abuse and mental illness, house the homeless, and provide arts and cultural programs that improve our quality of life.

“But, in order to pay for the true cost of providing community services after years of deep budget cuts, there is more work to do.

“We also appreciate the Governor’s forward-looking proposal to begin the shift of some state-run mental health services into the community. We urge lawmakers to build upon this proposal by also continuing the effort to move state-operated group homes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities into the community.”
