Statement of Gian-Carl Casa, President & CEO of CT Community Nonprofit Alliance, on the bipartisan budget agreement that includes a one percent increase in funding for community-based nonprofits:
“On behalf of tens of thousands of people across Connecticut who get substance abuse and mental health treatment, stay in homeless or domestic violence shelters, get help transitioning from prison into the community, and the other numerous vital services provided by nonprofit community providers, we thank legislative leaders for reaching a budget agreement that includes a funding increase for the first time in many years.
“As Connecticut has struggled through difficult fiscal times, community nonprofits have had funding cut year after year, while trying to meet an increased demand for services. This increase is a bipartisan statement that as times improve, providers are a priority for restoration.
“A few days ago the House and Senate voted to give pay increases to low-wage workers who serve people with developmental disabilities. Providing increases to them and all providers is simply the right thing to do.”
