Statement from Gian-Carl Casa, President & CEO of CT Community Nonprofit Alliance, on the closing of Connecticut Juvenile Training School.
“The announcement that Governor Malloy has closed Connecticut Juvenile Training School is good news for our state’s youth, who were never well served in the ill-conceived and ill-constructed facility. But it is a first step that must be followed by a commitment to maintaining and building on the community-based service system that prevents youth from entering into the juvenile justice system; working to reduce recidivism; and meeting the needs of all children and families.
“The nonprofit community has the expertise, the experience and the capacity to provide the much-needed services, and we urge the Governor and the legislature to enact a budget and policies to ensure that care is provided.”
