“The Alliance is grateful that today’s Republican proposal, the budget considered by the Appropriations Committee, and the Governor’s budget all include conversion of more expensive state-operated human service programs to the nonprofit sector. Their embrace of the concept recognizes that conversion makes fiscal sense, and that after more than a decade of budget cuts community-based providers cannot endure more reductions.

“Connecticut has a history of strong human service programs that support and protect our most vulnerable citizens. As budget deliberations move forward, The Alliance urges leaders to focus on bold, long-term plans that take advantage of all the savings conversion offers, rather than the kind of cuts that are also in the proposals.”
