Statement from Gian Carl Casa, President & CEO of CT Community Nonprofit Alliance, on Governor Lamont’s address to the opening joint session of the General Assembly today:
“Today Governor Lamont said that state government should be more than a safety net; that getting by is not enough. Connecticut’s nonprofits, who have struggled for nearly two decades with underfunding, could not agree more.
“In recent years, the legislature has begun to provide funding increases, which nonprofits have appreciated. But the need for services has grown every year and buying power for nonprofits remains 30 percent lower than it was in 2007. No organization can meet growing need with one third less buying power.
“Today, Connecticut’s revenue system is delivering hundreds of millions of dollars more than is needed to fund the state budget, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
