Statement from Gian Carl Casa, President & CEO, CT Community Nonprofit Alliance, on the May Consensus Revenue Forecast issued today by the Office of Policy & Management and the Office of Fiscal Analysis:

“Today’s consensus revenue forecast shows the state’s tax system is generating another $200 million more than is needed for the budget, which will put this year’s surplus at almost $3 billion. The people who depend on the services of community nonprofits took more than their share of the budget cuts during the lean years, losing 46 percent of their buying power to inflation.

“Connecticut’s community nonprofits, their staff and the people they serve need help today. The state has the means. Not doing so would be a choice that would hurt people in need across the state. If the state won’t stand up for them now, when will it?”
