“Yet again Connecticut faces a budget shortfall, there are more deficits projected for the coming years, and there is no end in sight. Whether it’s now or a year from now the response should not be cutting funds to community-based nonprofit human service providers, which erode services for half a million people across the state.
“While we understand the need to balance the state budget, more cuts that will impact people served by nonprofits aren’t the answer. Services provided by nonprofits are as essential and valuable as things considered to be ‘fixed costs’ in the budget. The State must try something new and really consider long-term plans for more effective use of state dollars for community-based care.”
