Widespread Support for Community Nonprofits in Poll of CT Voters

Home Widespread Support for Community Nonprofits in Poll of CT Voters
An overwhelming majority of voters across the demographic, geographic and ideological divides consider services provided by CT Community Nonprofit Alliance members important to towns and cities like theirs, and should be funded as such by the state of Connecticut, according to polling conducted for the Alliance in late March by Change Research. Overall, most community nonprofit services were seen as either “very important” or “somewhat important” by 90% or more of respondents.

The poll results below show the Alliance’s proposal, which would restore $461 million in funding, is supported by 76% of voters (43% strongly support), including majorities of Democrats, independent and Republican voters. The poll also found that 69% of voters are more likely to support a candidate in Connecticut who votes for this plan to increase funding for community nonprofits programs (versus just 20% less likely to support). This includes 88% of Democrats, 60% of independents, and a 45% plurality of Republicans.

Programs operated by community nonprofits have not had a significant increase in funding since 2007 and have fallen $461 million behind inflation over that period. Unreimbursed costs imposed on them by the pandemic have made their already difficult financial situation even more challenging.
