NEWS RELEASE
(Hartford, CT) — The Connecticut Community Nonprofit Alliance (Alliance) has updated its ad campaign to increase funding for long-underfunded community nonprofits with a new video ad that warns about the impact ahead if no funding increase is included in the FY26-27 state budget currently being negotiated.
“Federal spending cuts are looming, inflation is up and we may be headed towards a recession. The need for nonprofit services is increasing. Flat state funding won’t keep up with costs, and without adequate funds, programs will close,” the video ad script says, concluding with a call for lawmakers to increase funding for community nonprofits.
The 30-second video ad is part of a paid online streaming video and social media campaign that launched in March and will run through the end of the legislative session.
Community-based nonprofits contract with the state to provide a wide range of behavioral, developmental, community justice, shelter and other human services to thousands of people across the state every day. Nonprofits have been underfunded for more than a decade. They have received some funding increases in recent years that begin to restore funding, but their spending power remains 32 percent less than it was in 2007.
Gian Carl Casa, President & CEO of the Alliance, said the updated campaign message is more important this year than ever before.
“Nonprofits are not funded at a level that covers the cost of providing services, and they are in crisis today. That crisis will deepen if there are federal funding cuts in the coming months. Connecticut has a $2 billion surplus and that’s big enough to help nonprofits today. We urge lawmakers to approve a budget with an increase,” Casa said.
This year, nonprofits are seeking a $264 million increase for FY26.
