Statement from Gian Carl Casa, President & CEO of CT Community Nonprofit Alliance, on the FY26-27 budget agreement:
“On behalf of thousands of people served by community-based nonprofits, the Alliance thanks the General Assembly and Governor for reaching budget agreement that includes a significant funding increase in the second year.
“The budget is not everything we requested, but in the context of this year’s discussions about budget restrictions, we are grateful for their choice to support programs that will improve thousands of lives and even save some. We feel confident that the increases will remain intact next year because they were generated by grassroots support.
“Since the start of the legislative session, people who depend on nonprofits, their staff and supporters from across Connecticut have spoken out, saying they are in crisis, services are endangered, and more funding is desperately needed.
“Rank and file lawmakers, including progressives, moderates and members of the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, responded by making it clear that the people served by community nonprofits are a priority.
“Their leaders and the Governor listened, and found a way to increase funding in a real way. It is deeply appreciated and will make Connecticut a better place for families, women and men across the state.”
