Statement from Gian Carl Casa, President & CEO of CT Community Nonprofit Alliance:
“One thing is certain about the cuts to Medicaid passed today by the U.S. Senate: they will cause people to lose healthcare across the country.
“Vulnerable kids and adults in Connecticut get Medicaid-funded services from nonprofits to address mental health and substance abuse, autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as basic physical healthcare.
“Reducing eligibility for health care doesn’t make need go away. It doesn’t cut waste, fraud or abuse. It just means fewer people who need services will get help, and more will turn to far more costly emergency rooms.
“We are fortunate that, at least for the short-term, that Connecticut has the revenue to fill in where the federal government is abdicating its responsibility, and we urge the Governor and the legislature to do so.
“We thank Senators Blumenthal and Murphy for their opposition to these cuts, and we urge the U.S. House to reject this bill.”
