NEWS RELEASE

The Connecticut Community Nonprofit Alliance (Alliance) has launched a paid online, streaming video ad and social media campaign that urges lawmakers to fund and strengthen the human service safety net, especially as the state faces looming federal spending cuts.

The video ad says community nonprofits, who serve some of the neediest in the state, continue to be underfunded and struggling, at a time when the state’s tax revenues continue to exceed budget needs.

“Connecticut is one of the wealthiest states in the nation, where no critical services should be shortchanged,” the ad says. “Tell legislators to fund and strengthen the human service safety net, so that even if it stretches, it will not break.”

The 30-second streaming video ads began running this month, and combined with digital advertising, will run through the end of the legislative session.

Gian Carl Casa, President & CEO of the Alliance, said that while nonprofits are grateful for the increases in recent years, nonprofits remain underfunded.

“We appreciate that the Governor and the General Assembly have appropriated new funding for nonprofits in recent years. But after more than a decade of underfunding, and cuts in federal programs coming later this year, it is more important than ever to fund the state’s safety net,” Casa said.

Casa added, “Connecticut has the funds. We urge lawmakers to strengthen community nonprofits, so they can continue to provide services to Connecticut residents, regardless of cuts coming from Washington.”

Community-based nonprofits contract with the state to provide a wide range of behavioral, developmental, community justice, shelter and other human services to thousands of people across the state every day.
